When we started being in quarantine almost six weeks ago, I had all of these grand ideas of how much I was going to accomplish. Rooms cleaned out! Closets sorted and organized! Tons of things ready to donate! Outstanding projects finally done! Books read!
Today, I texted this to a friend: “My original goal when all this started was to get a bunch of stuff cleaned out and organized. Now I just want to see how tan I can get.”
I am a list girl. Productivity and planners are my love language. I like goals and resolutions and plans.
And this whole pandemic things is really messing that up. I’ll have my list for the day written first thing in the morning, and all of a sudden, it’s bedtime and nothing on the list is done. What happened to my day?
I’m learning grace, every day. I saved this quote by @morganharpernichols a while ago because it’s something I need to remember ALL THE TIME, but especially right now.
I am not the sum of what I’ve accomplished in a day. My value does not lie in what I’ve crossed off my list each day. Because I don’t write “Snuggle with my kids” or “Have a family movie night” on my list. Those things are where the real value is found.
That’s what I’m learning in this season. It goes against every fiber of my being to put productivity up on a shelf for the time being, but it’s good for me. To rest and relax and restore.
