Focusing On What I Can Control

SACS - maraboli quote.png

I spend a lot of time keeping my calendar up-to-date, checking things off my To-Do list and making sure that my life is carefully organized so that nothing falls through the cracks. I have a lot of responsibilities with my family, my full-time gig, this side gig, different ministry responsibilities and managing my home. It helps me when I can have a carefully laid out plan for getting everything done.

The calendar and lists give me a sense of control over the things that are controllable. I can control my calendar and appointments and making sure I set aside time for friends. I can control my own attitudes, behaviors and actions. I can control how much I let other people affect me. I can control what projects I take on. I can control what I eat and how much I exercise and what I watch and listen to and when I go to bed and wake up. I can control who I let be part of my life.

But there are a lot of things that AREN’T controllable, and sometimes those things are hard for me. Here are a few things that I don’t have much say in.
→ What other people think of me, whether or not they like me or how they will treat me
→ Other people’s actions, feelings and opinions in general
→ My kids’ attitudes and behaviors from day to day
→ Global pandemics and stay-at-home orders
→ The past
→ The future

So I love today’s quote by Steve Maraboli. When I can focus on the things I do have control over instead of what I can’t control, it definitely puts me in a healthier place. So that’s the goal. Happy Monday, friends. 🖤🧡
