After five long months of routines being upended and everything feeling unsettled, I'm hopeful that the next couple of weeks will bring some sense of normalcy. I crave it.
We're pretty much settled in our new home. After being sick with strep throat TWICE in July, I'm feeling healthy again. My kids are going back to school next week which means that I'll be back to my normal, full-time working hours. We'll be back in church on a regular basis. Our weekday evenings should feel like they are supposed to during the school year. Even if I'm doing it all with my face covered, I don't care as long as I can feel like things are starting to return to normal.
Of course, that can all change. We've all learned about how quickly things can go from being "normal" to being anything but normal. If that's the case, I feel better equipped to deal with it.
I've said it over the past few months, but there are a lot of things about my old normal that I hope stay in the past. I want to hold on to this slower pace, not rushing from thing to thing and not being pulled in a million directions. I want to hold on to quiet, slower mornings and evenings playing with my kids and long walks with friends and undistracted phone calls with family.
This quote by Dr. Quinn, Medicine Woman (aka Jane Seymour) is a good one going into the next few weeks/months. Because no matter how hard I try, I can't do everything at once. I have to prioritize what is most important. I have great people around me, so I need to delegate responsibilities without feeling guilty that I'm shirking my duties or feeling afraid that it won't meet my standards.
MOST IMPORTANTLY, I have to be willing to say NO. Even if it disappoints people. Even if I would be good at it. Even if I think it sounds interesting.
Those are my thoughts for today. Have a great one! 🧡🖤🧡
